Holmes Family Park Delights All Ages!

Rain could not dampen the excitement surrounding the park’s opening in August. Since the ribbon-cutting, it has been a thrill to see everyone greet the park's features with such enthusiasm. Local business owners have told us the park has benefited them by drawing out-of-town visitors who also dine and shop while they are here.

Support Chelsea Parks at a Historic Home Tour!
Chelsea Parks & Recreation, Chelsea Area Friends for Recreation, and Main Street Park Alliance invite you into one of the city’s classic homes. The home at 400 Congdon Street served as the St. Mary School for 90 years, then housed the Chelsea Center for the Arts, and is now privately owned by Cyntha and Dave Burgoyne. The Burgoynes were inspired by the rebirth of the old Federal Screw Works property as Holmes Family Park and wanted to help. “We had our home on the historical society’s holiday home tour, and it stirred up a lot of interest,” said Burgoyne. As part of the Chelsea Chamber’s Hometown Halloween celebrations, owners Cyntha and Dave Burgoyne will open their unique home again on October 24, from 10 am to 1 pm, to raise funds for the Chelsea Parks & Pathways Sustainability Fund.

All rooms will be on display, including the state-of-the-art kitchen and bathrooms, a designer deck, the old gym, and all the classrooms, many of which serve as bedrooms and can host up to 27 family members. For the October tour, Burgoyne is working with a theme she’s calling Dark Academia. “It’s a little bit Harry Potter, a little bit Edgar Allen Poe, and a little bit gothic…from hanging candles to raven nests to skeleton stair minders. It’s going to be lovely, dark, and mysterious.”

Tickets are $25; kids under 12 are free. All tour proceeds benefit the Chelsea Parks & Pathway Sustainability Fund, a new partnership between Chelsea Area Friends for Recreation and the Main Street Park Alliance.  The fund will support capital repairs and replacements across Chelsea’s parks to ensure the longevity of these beautiful spaces.
