Mark Your Calendars for the Holmes Family Park Opening!
After a bitterly cold winter and a very wet early spring, construction is back in full swing at Holmes Family Park! Construction will continue into July before the park’s ownership is transferred to the City of Chelsea. The City will have a soft opening, weather and construction permitting, in July, with Grand Opening Festivities planned for August 21 & 22. While very enticing, please remember that it is an active construction zone and is not safe or open to the public.
Speaking of Safety…
The City of Chelsea received MDOT approval for a gateway crossing at the corner of Van Buren and Main Street to improve pedestrian safety crossing M-52 to reach the park. This crossing will help slow traffic in the area, improving walkability in this part of our city.
Watch the Progress!
Landscaping, tree planting, and sidewalk work are in progress. Be sure to watch for mural painting beginning May 1 and soft play area and sport court surfacing later in the month! This mural was designed and will be painted by Chelsea High School Alumna Sophie Pappas. The mural will embody the values at the heart of this project: community, growth, hope, wellness, and connection. We cannot wait to see it come to life!
What Comes Next?!
Thank you to the many businesses and individuals who helped MSPA reach our construction fundraising goal and anticipated completion of the Holmes Family Park. However, Main Street Park Alliance’s commitment to the wellness and vitality of our community does not end with construction. Our fundraising efforts continue, and it is not too late to join us. 100% of post-construction funds will go to the Chelsea Parks & Pathways Sustainability Fund. The fund will be used for capital repairs and replacements throughout all of Chelsea’s parks to ensure the longevity of these new, beautiful spaces.
